Michi Sushi, nestled in Toronto's Willowdale neighborhood, offers a cozy and unassuming dining experience. Renowned for its superb quality and beautifully presented dishes, this small eatery is a hidden gem for sushi enthusiasts.

Ambiance

Nestled along Willowdale Avenue, Michi Sushi offers a serene escape from Yonge Street's hustle. This quaint locale, north of Sheppard Avenue, is embraced by a charming streetscape, featuring diverse businesses, cozy residences, and cycling paths, creating a tranquil ambiance perfect for enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine.

Interior of Michi Sushi

As you approach the restaurant, you'll notice a charming patio area adorned with comfortable benches, inviting you to relax before your meal. Stepping inside, the spacious layout unfolds before you, in the centre of the space sits a sizable bar able to accommodate approximately 10 patrons, the rest of the space was willed with rectangular tables. Behind the bar, skilled Itamae, or sushi chefs, meticulously craft each dish, providing an immersive dining experience.

The walls, adorned with a blend of paneling and tiles in rich, dark hues, evoke a rustic ambiance that adds to the restaurant's charm. Adorning the wooden pillars and walls are scattered Polaroid pictures, capturing memories of guests over the years, adding a personal touch to the decor. Delicate red and white lanterns suspended from the ceiling cast a warm, inviting glow throughout the space, while a rack along the back wall displays an assortment of bottles, hinting at the restaurant's diverse beverage offerings.

What We Ordered

Sushi & Sashimi Moriwase $88

Sushi & sashimi moriwase
The moriwase plate offers an ideal opportunity for sharing and exploring a diverse array of flavors and textures. With a generous selection of 22 pieces of sashimi, 12 pieces of sushi, and a choice between 6 pieces of salmon roll or spicy tuna roll, totaling 40 pieces, it's a culinary adventure for 2-3 diners. We decided on the salmon roll, considering the varying quality of tuna in Toronto, yet were pleasantly surprised by the exquisite taste of the 2 pieces of tuna sashimi included in the plate.

Agedashi Tofu $8

Agedashi Tofu

As we progressed through the beautifully arranged plate, our stomaches were gradually filled, yet we found ourselves yearning for something crispy and fried to complement the sushi. Hence, we opted for the Agedashi Tofu, a delightful dish of deep-fried tofu served with grated white radish and tempura sauce. With its impeccably fluffy interior and delicate texture, each bite of the Agedashi Tofu was delightful.

Other Menu Options

At Michi Sushi, guests are treated to an exquisite dining experience featuring a diverse menu tailored to satisfy every palate. Alongside their à la carte options, they offer two distinct Omakase experiences, embracing the Japanese concept of "I leave it up to you," where patrons entrust the chef to curate a culinary journey. Priced affordably between $70 and $88 per person, these Omakase offerings promise an indulgent exploration of flavours and textures. Additionally, their menu boasts an array of Donburi selections, traditional Japanese rice-bowl dishes brimming with succulent fish, savoury meats, crisp vegetables, and aromatic seasonings, all served atop a steaming bed of rice.
