History:
Maison Kuntz, founded in 2015, is a celebration of Alsatian heritage by Alban Kuntz. Beyond baking, it's a sanctuary where the essence of life, fresh scents, and Alsace's spirit converge to evoke a journey beyond the Vosges mountains. Influenced by his grandmother's culinary legacy and professional stint at Maison Jocteur, Alban Kuntz crafts his distinct, authentic recipes.
Nestled in northeastern France along the serene Rhine River plain, Alsace stands as a testament to a vibrant past shaped by the interplay of German and French influences. This region's captivating history unfolds through its architectural wonders and culinary delights, epitomized by Maison Kuntz. With a legacy rooted in centuries of cultural exchange, Maison Kuntz captures the essence of Alsace's heritage in its delectable baked creations, offering a taste of tradition with every bite.
Maison Kuntz's primary location sits at the bustling intersection of rue Guy de Maupassant and rue Mignard in Paris' elegant 16th arrondissement. Additionally, the brand boasts two charming boutiques in Versailles, strategically positioned near the renowned Palace and the lively market streets of rue Carnot and rue du Général Leclerc. Today, our journey takes us to the boutique on rue Carnot.
Why Stop by a Café Before Visiting Versailles:
Starting your journey to the Palace of Versailles or venturing into the picturesque town is best accompanied by a visit to a local café. Arriving early not only grants you the opportunity to plan your day meticulously but also indulge in a delightful culinary experience before delving into the splendor of Versailles. Additionally, I highly recommend taking the time to explore the town itself. Designed to entice nobles from across France, its architecture, history, and vibrant markets often take a backseat to the grandeur of the Palace, yet they offer a unique charm that's not to be missed.
How to Get There from the Palace of Versailles:
Navigating from the Palace of Versailles to our Maison Kuntz is quite simple, its about a 7 minute walk from the Grille d'Honneur (The Honour Gate) or a 5 minute walk from the parking lot. From the end of the parking lot, opposite the Honour Gate, you will take a left on Av. Rockefeller/D186 until you reach Rue Carnot, for which you will turn right on, and Maison Kuntz will be on your left hand side. If you are still unsure, you can click here for its location on the map.
Ambiance:
The exterior of the cafe is panelled and painted in a shade of midnight blue. The interior is quite different, with light brown furniture and flooring, white walls and a long counter filled with a variety of pastries, and racks of baguette tradition. The cafe exudes warmth and the cozy setting offers a break from the bustling walkways of the Palace and surrounding streets, inviting you to relax and indulge in moments of tranquility.
What I Ordered:
Indulging in our culinary delights, I opted for a green tea and a pains aux raisins that morning, which captivated my taste buds with its soft yet crispy bite and impeccable presentation on a small round board. Each bite was a testament to the culinary expertise and dedication of Maison Kuntz's team.
Whether you're seeking a moment of respite amidst the grandeur of Versailles or simply craving a taste of Alsatian charm, Maison Kuntz promises a memorable experience and relaxing experience.
