About

Pera Cafe is a Turkish style breakfast join sitting off the centre of Kensington Market on Nassau Street. On one side of the cafe is all residential and the other side it meets Augusta ave, where you can find many unique shops and restaurants. It has a lovely clean patio with a few umbrellas, and because it is on Nassau street, beside residential, it makes for a much quieter and relaxing experience versus the crowds that sometimes fill Kensington Market.

Location

Kensington Market is a bohemian neighbourhood, surrounded by victorian houses and Toronto's Chinatown. It is filled with thrift shops, vintage boutiques, specialty grocers and art spaces. It is quite the tourist spot and can draw great crowds during the summer months. It is a richly multicultural area and a great place to see some of the cities local talent.

Our Experience

Today was quite a warm day, the patio was filled to the brim with patrons enjoying eggs, sausages, salads and baked goods under the sun. We were a little too heavily dressed to enjoy the heat outside so we opted to sit inside the establishment. They do not have table service, so you will have to step up to the counter to make your order. We ordered matcha latte ($5.49), the turkish style breakfast sandwich ($11.99) and Summer Berry Cheese Cake ($8.99) to share. The panini was perfectly grilled, savoury and cheesy and the cheesecake with the fresh berries made for a refreshing balance. The ingredients were fresh and did not leave us feeling bloated or heavy, but satisfied with our little snack. They also have a variety of beautiful breakfast plates to choose from, in the case that you're a little bit hungrier.

After finishing our meal we sat and chatted for a bit in the space, it was lovely not to be rushed out or on a time crunch as you do find at restaurants sometimes. Once we were done we went to explore the different shops of the open air market and even saw some of my friends beautifully beaded jewellery that can be found in the Bazaar Gift Shop or online here.

Conclusion

Pera Cafe offers a serene escape from the bustling streets of Kensington Market, providing a tranquil pause for patrons to enjoy Turkish-style breakfast delights. Whether lounging on their spacious patio or cozying up indoors, the cafe's fresh and flavourful offerings, including the perfectly grilled panini and delightful summer berry cheesecake, provide a satisfying summer treat. With its relaxed atmosphere and proximity to the vibrant cultural hub of Kensington Market, Pera Cafe invites visitors to savour each moment, fostering a leisurely dining experience that perfectly complements the eclectic charm of its surroundings.
